Hanover Goals

Board Goals for 2016-2017:

Instructional Practices  Support teachers' efforts to share best practices through continued opportunities for peer observation and professional development.  Assigned Board member:  Bruce Duncan & Education Committee
Leadership 
Staff:  Review current leadership structure at Ray. Working with Administration, determine methods for improvement. (Consider addition of Ray staff to Board committees.)  Assigned Board member:  Carey Callaghan, plus Kevin Cotter and Frank Bass
Board:
  • Support Superintendent and District staff in effective "onboarding" of Interim Principal/Associate Principal.
  • Encourage Board-member participation in professional development opportunities (NHSBA, Tuck Institute type programs, education PD, other).
  • Create Board Handbook to educate new and current members.
  • ? Expand committee membership to include more community members. (Helps establish pipeline for future Board members.)
Students: Encourage review of current leadership opportunities for students. Identify additional opportunities.
Stress 
Students:  Review current Ray School homework practices.  Survey teachers and parents and examine current research.  Determine if current homework policy and practices reflect best practice.  Board members assigned:  Education Committee
Staff:  Review current substitute practices and availability. In conjunction with Dresden and SAU boards, evaluate need for revised practices.  Board member assigned:  Kelly McConnell
Board:  Ensure workload is equitably distributed among members.  Board member assigned:  Jona Roberts
Policies   Assigned Board members:  Kelly McConnell and Carey Callaghan
  • Review findings of NHSBA policy review and SAU Policy & Procedures Committee.
  • Update Hanover Board policies based on findings.
Budget   Assigned Board member:  Dan Rockmore
  • Develop a financially responsible and sustainable 2017-2018 budget while maintaining a high-quality educational program.
  • Support review of Ray support and Special Education programs.
  • Encourage Board attendance at Ray staff budget meetings.
  • (Consider Ray staff attendance at Board budget meetings.)  
Communications   Evaluate and identify areas to improve communication with staff, parents and community.  Assigned Board member:  David Sobel
